Writer-Reminders .... the weekly ezine for sidetracked writers.

Sep 2, 2005 - It's Messy Already Anyway

Thought for the Week - It's Messy Already Anyway

This week my husband and I were talking about how nice it is to have everything spotless -- and what led us into such a messy office to begin with -- and we determined that it is the "It's-Messy-Already-Anyway" factor (or IMAA).

You know how when you go into a room with something that needs to be put away and it's a little bit messy. Then instead of putting it away, you just set it down with the thought, "I'll put this away later with the rest of the stuff. It's Messy Already Anyway."

Uh, oh.

It doesn't take too many IMAA episodes, and then you've created a monster that needs hours to clean up.

So that's why we're not letting anything build up in the areas that are clean. No more "I'll get to it later." It's right away or at a minimum before we go to sleep.

Try it, and see if it helps you (yes, you do have to first get it clean. Remember that organizing vacation I mentioned last week? This weekend is Labor Day. It's the perfect time to tackle a big project.) I'd love to hear how it goes.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the teleclasses for the survey last week (if you didn't get to take it, here's the link again:

Teleclass Survey

It has been really helpful, and we will have several calls with replays this fall. I was able to get Linda (my feng shui guru) to teach us Feng Shui for Writers! Mark your calendars for October 17th. More details to come later.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you who have been affected by the hurricane this week.  I've had such a hard time continuing with my regular life this week knowing there are people suffering so much.  In case you would like to donate, be sure to check with your employer for matching.  My husband's employer is matching donations 2:1, or here's a link to the Red Cross.

Best,
Julie

"Julie, I am sending a quick note to thank you for your well measured and extra-ordinary website. You have a tremendous amount of information at a very reasonable cost. I subscribed to your free site and, for the first time in forty years of writing, found a planner that works for me.  I felt so guilty for receiving so much information free from your
site that I have now ordered and downloaded the e book. I have found that you have struck a cord among so  many writers regarding procrastination and simple  organization. Keep up the good work.
